Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Niyorah – A Different Age

Nigel Olivacce member of the Star Lion Famil and native son of Dominica. NiyoRah is one of brilliant character and ability and is son to the much sought healer and herbsman Ras Bobby. Niyo-Rah was raised in the ghetto area of St. Thomas known as Savan. An area where concrete hearts and turf dominate the landscape and one must be very rootical to come through in the positive.

Earth Day

Today is officially Earth Day so I thought it would be proper to talk of some of the things we can do to promote a healthier and more fruitful planet. Start by taking a big deep breath, with the recognition that we are taking part in one of the most perfect, symbiotic relationships that takes place; the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide that occurs between plants and ourselves. Life stems from here and continues to grow into this beautiful existence that we all share.

There are a myriad number of ways we can join in and work with our natty mother but the one I find particularly rewarding is foraging and to grow our own food. Foraging I really don’t know enough about to discuss but I do know that by identifying a few edibles that grow in your region, you open yourself up to some interesting possibilities. There are also some plants in our region that can be used to create your own herbal smoking blends as well as those that “open the doors of perception” (but only mildly). Mullein, mugwort, wild lettuce( latuca virosa) are a few to check. Damiana, sage, catnip, comfrey can be fairly easily propagated by seed and raised through good intentions to become a great addition to any herb collection.

Enough about that and some more on food:

By growing food we our securing a healthy, local food source that links us directly to our land and demystifies the whole food production process. Not to mention a few extra bucks in our pocket and a wealth of food that we can share with others. And the taste, well you already know how much flavor fresh fruits/veges can pack. Attached are some articles I hope you guys enjoy.
