Under the Lion’s Skin

Under the lion’s skin:

A donkey found a lion’s skin and put it on. In this frightening disguise, he grazed in a farmer’s field. He amused himself by frightening all the animals he met. He felt so powerful!

Along came a fox. The donkey under the lion’s skin tried to frighten him. The donkey stood tall under the skin and let out a sound that he thought would resemble a roar. Alas, his donkey voice was all that was heard.

The fox laughed and said, “Silly donkey, if you really want to frighten me you’ll have to disguise your bray. Clothes MAY disguise a fool you know. But, his words always give him away!

My Lil’ Secret

Ain’t so secret anymore… I go to these guys for some instant inspiration everyday.

An Excerpt from billy & the broken stitch blog:

Posted April 19th 2010:

“What is the right board? What is the perfect amount of rocker? What is the appropriate approach? How many waves do you get without being a wave hog? When is my next surf trip? How long will I go? I am in the ponder phase of my surfing life. The ocean is ever changing, the equipment is always developing & my ideas and views on surfing are re-born every year. Then I realize that nothing can be known in an ever changing world. We all have a different attachment to the ocean & surfing anyway. By the time the time I think I have my own answers, my question has changed. Funny thing is . . . I do my best surfing when I am not struggling for answers but rather accepting that, for me, there are none. My surfing has to be a response everyday to the unique way I feel in the moment. The past years have deeply challenged me to be o.k. with my approach to wave riding. NEVER SURRENDER YOUR OWN TRUTH. Nobody knows why we do the things we do, but surely we must all have reasons. I have learned that lesson the hard way. Let’s all paddle out today and be completely FREE in the big blue heaven, that is the only way we will ever be truly satisfied in our souls.”

AMEN.

Dominick ‘Buck’ Navarra

Dominick 'Buck' Navarra

Dominick Buck Navarra:

A hobo by nature Dominick ‘Buck’ Navarra is one of the few surviving knights of the ‘Furthur’ camp of the 1970′s. Dominick’s spirit and now his art work have always been encapsulating; drawing the viewer in just as his smiling eyes will draw a friend into mischief. I will always be glad of the hot pink star sunglasses in a sea of unknown faces.

Artist’s statement:

My work is about renewal and transformation in several contexts. I work with found material that can come from burned houses, a dumpster, outdoor resources and anywhere else there is to find interesting objects…It is in using these discarded objects that I became increasingly fascinated with the idea of high and low art. It might be said that the work that I do could be considered folk art or low art, considering the aesthetic and content. It might also be said that my work could be considered fine or high art because of my formal training and education. It is this line of push and pull that I am interested in crossing, and merging the gap between aesthetics. I like to think of it in the way that a violin is different from a fiddle. It is the same instrument but one carries a violin in a case and a fiddle in a potato sack.

Rainy Day Man on a Rainy Day

12 The End <— click to enjoy

The Rainy Day Man

“Kalai is urban vintage. The Hawaiian Born, Alaska raised, 26 year-old, is an old school young buck with do anything, anytime, at any level, musical talent.  Besides being a lyrical BIGfoot, instrumentally this guy puts the “Z” in skillz.  His music ranges coast to coast with soft ballads, edgy blues, straight jazz, acid jazz, and yeah buddy, a little bit of his own thing.  If Dave Mathews, Paul Simon, Ben Harper, James Taylor, John Mayer, Bill Murray (Yes, the comedian.) and Béla Fleck had a baby it would surely be this guy!  One might say you have to hear him to believe it, but chances are, even once you do, you won’t.  Just Listen.”- Anonymous from the kalai website
